“Watch [check] and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
– Matthew 26:41 ESV
Jesus took the time to teach His disciples the discipline of prayer. He Himself spent regular time in solitude, praying to the Father. On the night of His arrest, He asked His disciples to be watchful. Watching means to live our Christian lives in such a way that we are alert to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Being spiritually alert allows us to see the enemy when he’s coming a mile away. Jesus knew exactly what would happen that night. Are you taking time to pray to stay spiritually alert? During these days of spiritual maintenance, ask the Holy Spirit to speak with you and keep you spiritually awake. Watch and pray.
