But the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and gladly listened to the message. They searched [checked] the Scriptures day by day to check up on Paul and Silas’ statements to see if they were really so.”
– Acts 17:11 TLB

The Word gives us a beautiful description of the people of Berea. They were excited to listen to the Word of God preached by Paul and Silas and they checked the Scriptures preached each day to confirm the Word of the Lord. This is a great picture of a healthy disciple: people who are hungry for the Word and are growing in their consumption of it daily. When we are open to what the Holy Spirit is telling us through the Word, we position ourselves for transformation. Pray this simple prayer: Lord, open our ears to hear your Word. Help us to study your Word, not only on Sundays. Prepare us for transformation.
